Biography

A PIONEER IN ADVANCED LAPAROSCOPIC AND BARIATRIC SURGERY

Dr M Ramesh is often called the pioneer in basic and advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and is known to be among the first surgeons to have performed it for various gastrointestinal, gynaecological, urological and thoracic disorders in the country.

His basic medical training was completed at Bangalore Medical College, and he continued Surgical training at St Martha’s Hospital, Bangalore which he completed in the year 1989. He is known to have started the first Video laparoscopic Centre in Karnataka in 1992. He is well known for his expertise in performing Assisted Laparoscopic surgery for splenectomy, colectomy, and donor nephrectomy in India, since 1997.

Biography

Dr. Ramesh Makam initiated the first Video Laparoscopic Centre in Karnataka State in 1993.

He serves as the Senior Consultant and Head at A.V. Hospital, Bangalore.

Dr. Makam is the Director of the Bangalore Endoscopic Surgery Training Institute & Research Centre.

He is an advisor to the Society of Biomedical Technology and a member of the National Programme of Micro & Smart Substances (P.A.R.C.).

Dr. Makam pioneered Basic and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in Karnataka, covering GI Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, and Thoracic Surgery.

He introduced Hand Assisted Laparoscopic surgery for various procedures, including splenectomy, colectomy, and donor nephrectomy in India, starting in 1997.

Dr. Makam played a significant role in popularizing Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery since 2004.
